Gone are the days of sitting in the backyard and painting my nails while texting ten of my closest friends. Sure, I would paint more of my skin than my nails, but it would come off…eventually. This season, you actually need a professional to give you the “in look.” The old standards “Passionately Pink” and “Ravenously red” just won’t cut it anymore. Now you need things like “leopard print,” “lace trim” and my favorite, “Newspaper print.” People have come up with all kinds of inventive patterns. It’s not just flowers and French manicures anymore. And the new trend is designs on natural nails—Hallelujah!
So if you have a little time on your hands, or some sort of embarrassing fungus, you don’t have to hit up the nail salon. There are several “How to” sites that will show you the step-by-step process of making these little thumbnail sketches. A word to the wise though— if arts and crafts are not your thing, then you might want to have someone do it for you. I would hate to see your Hello Kitty nails end up looking like a pet cemetery.
